Faro a Colón (Columbus Lighthouse) is, like the name says, a tribute to Christopher Columbus, built in Santo Domingo in 1986. It was blessed and inaugurated by Pope John Paul II in 1992. The monument projects really powerful beams of light shaped like a cross (which you can see in the postcard) and they can even be seen from Puerto Rico. It's said that remnants of Christopher Columbus are inside the lighthouse, making it both a tribute and a mausoleum. This is my second card from Dominican Republic, so special!
