Depicts: Plain tile mosaic from The British Museum (London, United Kingdom)
As soon as I looked at this card, I knew I'd already seen that pattern somewhere - and I was right. Even though the postcard comes from The Netherlands, it actually shows a plain tile mosaic from The British Museum, where I spent a great deal of time back in 2010 - and that's why I thought I recognized the pattern and its style from somewhere. Those who know the musem know that this pattern is something easily found there, plus I've got a ton of photos from there that I ocasionally see all over again, so of course it was familiar.
Now for a little bit of culture: this mosaic was assembled using loose paving tiles of the mid 13th century to show different panels and borders. They're from the site of Rievaulx Abbey, Yorkshire, and can be found in the British Museum Medieval Room.
