#36

Received: November 12th, 2013
From: Diana (Oporto, Portugal)
Depicts: Monastery of Batalha (Batalha, Portugal)

This one card was very funny to receive. Diana is from my country and we live in the same city most of the year, because we both study there - we don't know each other at all, but it was still funny to get a random card from my own country! Plus, she started  her Postcrossing adventures when she was living in Barcelona and I feel especially connected to that. And it was nice to get a souvenir from my own country, since I obviously don't get many, if any.
This one shows a fountain on the Monastery of Batalha, one of most famous monuments in Portugal. Built in the Gothic style, it was erected to commemorate Portugal's victory in the Battle of Aljubarrota and was used to bury the Portuguese Aviz dynasty. It's magnificent. This postcard in particular show a fountain that was used as some kind of "lavatory" and also details on the architecture of the royal cloister.
